Karaköy sits on the water at the foot of Galata, and its guests are a mixed group. Cruise passengers come ashore at Galataport for a day or two; design hotels in former bank and warehouse buildings host city-break couples and business travellers; and some people recovering from dental or cosmetic treatment choose Karaköy for its flat seafront walks.
Kemeraltı Avenue and the tram line along the shore are busy, and the approach to Galata Bridge slows in the evening rush, but most hotels can be reached by car, which keeps arrival around 40–60 minutes. Karaköy is in the central zone: the visit is free in the daytime, with a €40 supplement from 22:00 to 07:00. If you are on a cruise, book early and check your all-aboard time.
